Once your RotoSpa has been filled with fresh water, then plugged in and activated, and after the water temperature has been brought up to about 30 degrees Celsius: with the circulation system running (no air), it is advisable to add a sequestering agent or metal remover (2-phosphonobutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid) to the water. Metals are present in tap water and should be neutralized before the chemicals are adjusted. Sequestering agents are designed to keep metals in suspension so that they don't tint the water, but most importantly they prevent the metals from staining surfaces. This step will help prolong the life of your RotoSpas’ pump, piping, heater and jets. These products come from several distributors, and often go by monikers such as, Eliminate Startup, Spa-Metal Free, or Metal Out just to name a few. A full small bottle or 10 – 12 Oz should be added upon initial fill.

Circulate a few minutes before proceeding.

With the circulation system running (no air) add 81 ml (1/3 cup + 1 tsp) of a Stain & Scale controlling chemical (2-phosphonobutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid, polymaleic acid). This step will assist in the inhibition of stain & scale, and prevent and aid in the removal of calcium build up. Names for these products include Eliminate Plus, Protect Plus or Spa Stain Prevention Solution.

Circulate a few minutes before proceeding.

With the circulation system running (no air), add 135 ml (1/2 cup & 1.5 tbsp.) of Enzyme (Bio-catalyzer). These enzymes will assist in the breaking down of oil and greases the are introduced to the hot tub via bathers. These products will often have the word “Enzyme” in it, or on the bottle. I.e. Purezyme, Spa Marvel, and Leisure Time SGQ Spa Enzyme.

 Wait 6 hours before proceeding.

Fill disk dispenser with chlorine disks and add to the hot tub water. We find that we keep ours quite snug as very little is needed on an ongoing basis. Trial and error is necessary on this step, monitor chlorine levels regularly with test strips or test kit.

With the circulation system running (no air), add 47 g (3.5 tbsp.) of a shocking agent (sodium dichlor). Broadcast into the centre of your RotoSpa. After shocking, maintain a chlorine level of 3-5 ppm. However, we prefer Spa Lite Oxidizer by SpaGuard for our initial fill, as well as our weekly maintenance regimen.

 Wait 15 minutes before proceeding.

With the circulation system running (no air), add 40 ml (3 tbsp.) of water clarifier (dialuminium chloride pentahydroxide) this step helps to keep the water in your hot tub a beautiful blue colour. This product coagulates small micro contaminants into larger masses thus enabling the filter to remove them.

 Wait 15 minutes before proceeding.

With the circulation system running (no air), add 203 g (¾ cup & 4 tbsp.) of Soft or Comfort granules. This step helps to give the water a smooth silky feel and assists in maintaining a stable PH level

 Wait 15 minutes before proceeding.

Test pH. Adjust if necessary to optimum hot tub level of 7.40

Have your hot tub water tested by your local testing facility.
